Mr. Tanmay Biswas

Tanmay Biswas has his own world of silence where his hearing disability did not stop from making a career for himself. He always felt that the challenges could be overcome with his self -confidence and everything could be achieved in his life. Mr. Biswas was born in 22nd August 1981 in Krishnanagar, Nadia, West Bengal. Inspite of profound deafness he got graduation degree and later on completed computer Application Course from Eastern Regional Centre of AYJNISHD, Kolkata in 2006. He is outstanding in sports and was awarded several medals. Now he is working as Office Assistant in ESIC, Lalbzar, Kolkata under Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India. His seniors adore him as simple, friendly, humble and sincere employee in the office. Recently he got married and settled in Kolkata.

Ms. Akshata Kalzunkar

Ms Akshata A. Kalzunkar reported at AYJNISHD (D), Mumbai at the age of 8 year and found to have Bilateral Profound Sensorineural Hearing Loss. The tenacity of her parents and perseverance of Akshata won over the impact of hearing loss and she passed SSC with flying colours followed by  Diploma (Digital Electronics) & B.E (Electronics and Telecommunication) with Distinction grade. She also proved her abilities in extra curriculum activities such as Painting and Sports etc. and won many prizes and awards. She was provided Career Guidance which helped her to secure a Govt. Job in Indian Navy as Chargeman and made her presence felt with her on-job performance. As part of social services, her dream is to create a Help Desk and provide Counselling and Guidance services to the Person with Special Abilities towards Higher Studies and Employment guidance helping them to become a productive citizens.

Master Manoj

Manoj is a Cochlear Implant user through ADIPs scheme which allowed him to go from a world of silence to a world full of new sounds. He was 2 yr old when his parents found out that he is not responding to loud sounds and there is delay in his speech.  He was diagnosed with Bilateral severe to profound hearing loss.  There was no benefit with hearing aids.   He was implanted through Ministry of Social Justice & Youth Empowerment-Free Cochlear Implantation Scheme through ADIP.  He underwent Free CI surgery and attended free therapy for a year at Manasa CI & ENT Centre, Bengaluru as a part of the scheme.   He can now listen like any other child of his age and speak clearly in long sentences to communicate even with strangers. He comprehends complex commands and can effortlessly carry out story narration.   Manoj is now attending a regular school and can communicate with his peers and teachers.  His success exemplifies the benefits of CI for those with severe to profound hearing loss. They are from economically weaker section and has poor educational background. High motivation and sincere commitment from the family has helped him to show the society “Deafness – No more a disability”.
